Role Responsibilities
Do you love making meaningful connections between themes and the public? Are you experienced in unlocking the story behind an artifact with storytelling to create “aha” moments and engaging experiences for all types of audiences?
As the Learning Activator, you will ensure visitors and program participants at the Royal Alberta Museum (RAM) unlock meaningful connections to the objects and stories within. This is achieved through the delivery of immersive programs (both facilitated and self guided) and world-class experiences.
In this role, you will work directly in the galleries/programming spaces of the Museum, ensuring RAM's spaces are lively and relevant with a diverse range of education and public programming events, hands-on demonstrations, or guided tours.
As a Learning Activator, you will be an important part of bringing Alberta's history to life, creating meaningful experiences, and exceptional programs through:
- Delivering engaging and dynamic programming and Learning experiences, using several techniques including (but not limited too) hands on activities, inquiry-based presentations, games, tours, and virtual programs.
- Working with the Indigenous Engagement team to respect protocol and Indigenous ways of knowing are a part of program delivery.
- Creating a welcoming and accessible experience for all program participants and visitors by incorporating a variety of interpretation techniques and instructional methodologies for varied audiences.
- Gathering information to identify gaps and recommend strategies to strengthen visitor experience.
- Providing administrative support, where required, to ensure programs are delivered smoothly.
- Helping to ensure that programs at RAM are relevant, flexible, and adequately meeting the needs of program participants by assisting with the review of learning programs for sound learning concepts and messaging that is clearly and consistently presented.
Working with other staff across the museum in delivering programming or education projects to ensure best experiences for the visitors.
Qualifications
- University or Collage graduation in a related field (Education, Museum Studies, Science Communication, Indigenous Studies, or related field).
- A minimum of 1 years progressively responsible related experience in interpretive or educational program development and delivery at museums, interpretive centers, or children’s museum.
- Equivalencies of directly related education or experience considered on a 1:1 basis.
You will possess the following:
- Sound knowledge of current interpretive techniques, teaching and presentation of exhibits and programs to multiple audiences.
- Knowledge of Alberta's human and natural history, including Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing.
- Ability to link diverse subject matter to a variety of ages, themes and experiences ensuring they are engaging, relevant and built on learner's expectations.
- Computer Literacy in Microsoft 365 suite and internet
- Ability to lift 25lbs
Assets:
- Familiarity with Alberta Curriculum, historical thinking, and the scientific processes
- Familiarity with exhibit development, including interactive exhibit materials and technologies
- Current and/or previous experience with virtual programs
