    Step back in time at Fort William, where the echoes of 1815 come alive. As a Special Events Assistant, you'll be at the heart of this immersive experience, working alongside the Visitor Experiences Coordinator to bring to life an array of heritage and contemporary events. Imagine orchestrating musical festivals, overseeing historical re-enactments, curating cultural expositions, and crafting artisan markets against the backdrop of one of North America's largest living history sites.     This position requires the availability to work evenings and weekends and the flexibility to work extra hours as required.

    What can I expect to do in this role?

    In this role, you will:
    • The Special Events Assistant assists the Visitor Experiences Coordinator at Fort William Historical Park (FWHP) in planning, developing, coordinating, and implementing a wide array of heritage and contemporary events, including musical festivals, historical re-enactments, cultural expositions, and artisan markets
    • This dynamic role will also participate in coordinating an annual FWHP event cycle, which includes event planning, delivery, administration, and post-event evaluation; assisting in the compilation of event feedback from staff, partners, and participants
    • You'll collaborate with the Visitor Experiences Coordinator, engaging in research assignments for special events to craft program content and identify current market trends and interests

    How do I qualify?


    - This position requires a valid G Drivers License or equivalent

    Event Planning, Participation, and Program Knowledge:

    • You can contribute to the planning, development, and delivery of special events
    • You can actively participate in public performances, dramatizations, and historical re-enactment events dressed in period-era costume, to demonstrate practices and activities reflecting life in the early 1800s at Fort William
    • You know of Fort William Historical Park programs and events and knowledge of the history of operations at Fort William during the early 1800s

    Administrative and Research Skills:

    • You have the ability to maintain records, prepare spreadsheet reports, event schedules, and outlines
    • You can employ research methods to collect information for developing content, which involves identifying entertainment agents, performers, and service providers, contributing to the exploration of potential new ideas and projects

    Customer Service Skills and Interpersonal Skills:

    • You have strong oral communication and interpersonal skills to effectively represent Fort William Historical Park to community partners, entertainers, performers, agents, and the public
    • You can apply customer service techniques, standards, and methods to ensure optimum visitor experiences

    Problem Solving & Initiative:

    • You have the ability to resolve or refer customer service issues that may arise
    • You have the ability to prioritize workload, monitor timelines, and meet deadlines
