    Sustainable Forestry Initiative® Inc. (SFI) advances sustainability through forest-focused collaborations. We are an

    independent, non-profit organization that demonstrates our commitment to forests through our work in standards,

    conservation, education, and community. SFI works with the forest sector, conservation groups, academics, researchers,

    brand owners, resource professionals, landowners, educators, local communities, Indigenous Peoples, and governments

    to achieve a vision of a world that values and benefits from sustainably managed forests. More than 360 million acres/147

    million hectares of forestland is certified to the SFI Forest Management Standard. These lands stretch from Canada’s

    boreal forest to the U.S. South.

    SFI is a leader in environmental education through professional development and curriculum resources that use trees and

    forests as a window on the world. Project Learning Tree® (PLT), our environmental education initiative, takes students

    outdoors to learn and connects youth to nature in urban, suburban, and rural settings. We inspire educators and youth

    leaders to take action for sustainable forests and a sustainable planet, and to introduce young people to green careers.

    Since 1976, Project Learning Tree has trained 700,000 educators to help students learn how to think, not what to think

    about complex environmental issues.

    The PLT Education Intern advances SFI’s mission by supporting goal areas for the education initiative Project Learning

    Tree: Program Delivery & Reporting, Program Research, and Communications. Results will help SFI communicate the

    impact of our education and outreach programs, provide benchmarks to evaluate future performance, and reveal new

    opportunities to enhance impacts, grow partnerships, and secure funding in support of PLT’s Business Plan. This work will

    be accomplished with the support and direction of multiple SFI Project Learning Tree staff.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    Program Delivery and Reporting:

    This work will be completed in conjunction with Manager, Education Products, unless otherwise noted.

    • Support strategy to enhance PLT Canada’s digital user experiences and information architecture for the green career

    counseling pathway tool.

    • Support strategy to digitize, upload, and tag curriculum materials for a robust searchable index on PLT.org using

    WordPress.

    • Provide technical support for advancing PLT’s digital optimization strategy including making updates to key ecommerce platforms, WordPress sites, data warehouse reconciliation, and providing customer support.

    • Assist the analysis, development and implementation of PLT’s online Professional Development offerings. This work

    will be completed in conjunction with Manager, Professional Development and Instructional Design.

    Program Research and Strategy:

    • Support strategy to implement programs and initiatives with SFI/PLT partners.

    • Conduct research to support models and resources to develop youth-facing content for PLT and PLT Canada. This

    work will be completed in conjunction with Manager, PLT Education Products and Manager, PLT Canada Career

    Education.

    • Conduct research to advance PLT and PLT Canada’s curriculum offerings, including research on target audiences for

    new print and digital products, and resources. This work will be completed in conjunction with Director, Curriculum

    and Manager, PLT Canada Career Education.

    • Conduct research to advance Educator and Facilitator Professional Development offerings, identifying needs,

    competitors’ offerings, and funding opportunities. This work will be completed in conjunction with Manager,

    Professional Development and Instructional Design.

    Communications for PLT US and PLT Canada:

    This work to be completed in conjunction with Coordinator, Communications & Marketing

    • Research new markets for promotion of PLT including award programs and coordinate application submissions.

    • Help source and create content for PLT’s social media, including researching and drafting social posts and blogs.

    • Coordinate the fulfilment and distribution of PLT marketing materials and promotional items, digitization of

    content, and customer support via social media.

    • Support staff in providing web training for the PLT networks and other professional development webinar.

    • Manage a digital library of media assets: create a storage structure and tag each asset with relevant keywords.

    • Engage with new audiences online, research and suggest partnership opportunities.

    • Research SFI/PLT grant project outcomes to assist in developing compelling communications, infographics, and

    other media.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

    This position is funded partly through support from the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment and Skills

    Strategy. To be eligible for this internship, candidates must:

    • Be between 15-30 years old at the start of employment;

    • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the

    Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and

    • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in

    accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

    QUALIFICATIONS/PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

    • A positive attitude and high energy—a person who sees opportunities rather than obstacles and enjoys working

    cooperatively in a team environment

    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

    • An aptitude for technology, including working knowledge of WordPress

    • Ability to work independently and remotely

    • Ability to manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced environment, handling tasks with diplomacy, tenacity,

    patience, and a drive for results

    • Active curiosity and engagement in ongoing learning—having and seeking depth of content knowledge and

    understanding

    • Superior written and verbal communication skills

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Current enrollment in an accredited 2- or 4-year college or university, or recently graduated

    • Interest in nonprofit management, forestry, environmental education, forest products, natural resources, or

    sustainability initiatives preferred

    • Prior administrative or office experience

    • Experience in and passion for technology such as website management and social media.

    • Experiences with customer service is a plus

    • Video editing and production skills for social sharing is a plus
