    Oversees education programs at Ocean Wise by:

    Working with the curriculum programs team in the development and implementation of new programs and activities;

    Assisting with the promotion and marketing of curriculum programs and other education initiatives;

    Continually evaluating programs to ensure that we are delivering a professional and valuable program to our visitors; instituting changes to programs in collaboration with the education team;

    Maintaining positive continuing working relationships with clients (teachers and schools) attending programs to ensure future bookings;

    Communicating effectively with the Manager, Curriculum Programs and other departments in a timely fashion to ensure adequate supplies are available for programs;

    Maintains a good working knowledge of marine animals, ecosystems, and issues;

    Helping to maintain the live animal collection with basic animal husbandry tasks.

    Coordinates and oversees special education programs at Ocean Wise by:

    Delivering professional development workshops for teachers;

    Designing customized programs for a variety of groups including home schools;

    Preparing materials for advertising and scheduling programs.

    Manages volunteers by:

    Recruiting, training, motivating, supervising, and evaluating a team of volunteers who facilitate programs;

    Designing and implementing specific volunteer training and continuing education for school program volunteers and work experience students;

    Assisting with the design and implementation of the general volunteer training program for all Aquarium volunteers.

    Consciously desires to improve Ocean Wise and its processes by:

    Promptly aiding in the Emergency protocol;

    Maintaining organizational safety standards;

    Continually improving our impact on the environment and greening of operations through support of EMS protocols;

    Performs additional duties as required.


    Education and Experience

    Bachelors’ Degree in Science, Education, Conservation, or relevant field;

    Knowledge of marine biology, issues, and research;

    A minimum of 2 years teaching/interpretation experience and experience with school-age children/youth;

    Experience delivering innovative educational programs for school-age students;

    Supervisory experience an asset; experience working closely with volunteers;

    Public speaking skills and experience working with groups of all sizes;

    BC Teaching Certificate preferred.


    Strong commitment to the environment and education;

    Animal husbandry experience an asset;

    Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;

    Experience working in a non-profit organization an asset;

    Strong communication and public speaking skills;

    Able to communicate effectively with audiences of all ages and learning abilities;

    Ability and maturity to deal with a wide variety of ages and personalities;

    Active demonstration of Ocean Wise Conservation Association’s values and mission;

    Strong customer service skills.

    Work Conditions

    The incumbent will work in a shared office environment with the usual ergonomic risks;

    The position is primarily non-physical;

    Available to work Monday through Friday. Work is bookings dependent.
