    SPES promotes awareness of and respect for the natural world and plays a leadership role in the stewardship of Stanley Park through collaborative initiatives in education, research and conservation. We are seeking an energetic, creative and passionate event programmer to connect people of all ages with nature.


    • Assist in the development, promotion and delivery of programming for the International Ornithological Congress (IOC), the world’s most prestigious of meetings for bird scientists
    • Support recruitment, training and coordination of volunteers
    • Assist in the development of educational displays
    • Develop and maintain activities for adults and children
    • Interact professionally and warmly with the public
    • Assist co-workers and ornithological experts with program delivery
    • Communicate effectively with the Public Education and Outreach Manager, co-workers and volunteers
    • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Nature House

    Qualifications and Criteria

    • Enjoy working with people; friendly, positive, energetic and creative
    • Strong knowledge of BC ecology with an emphasis on birds local to the region
    • Excellent leadership, organization, teamwork and communication skills
    • Willingness to work indoors and outdoors, rain or shine, as well as weekends
    • Willingness to secure first aid certification and criminal record check

    This position is subject to a wage subsidy. Please indicate if you meet any of the following requirements:

    • Between the ages of 15 – 30 years of age
    • A recent full-time student returning to fulltime studies in Fall 2017
    • Member of a visible minority or indigenous heritage may be given priority
    • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or under refugee protection

    Anticipated Date Ranges for two positions:

    June 22, 2017 – August 31, 2018

    Pay: $13.45 per hour, plus 4% in lieu of benefits

    Anticipated hours: 37.5 hours per week
