The Oldman Watershed Council (OWC) is seeking 4 outgoing, dynamic leaders to assist with restoration projects and support our education and engagement efforts in the headwaters of the Oldman Watershed. The aim of OWC’s Engaging Recreationists project is to raise awareness about watershed issues and encourage backcountry users to adopt best practices. These exciting positions require exceptional communications skills and a willingness to engage in hands-on stewardship actions.
Outreach Assistants will work full-time 5 days/week, with 2 consecutive days off (e.g. Sunday-Monday). The positions are based in Lethbridge (1-2 days per week), while the remaining 3-4 days will be spent travelling throughout the headwaters of the Oldman watershed conducting backcountry surveys, restoration, stewardship, and outreach activities. Many (but not all) weeks will involve 1-2 nights of tenting at campgrounds without cell service. Satellite communication devices, 4WD vehicles, and some camping gear will be provided.
If funding permits, Outreach Assistants will also conduct stream sampling; training (CABIN Field Technician certification) will be provided - a great addition to your résumé! There may be an opportunity for extension into the fall months for fieldwork - please indicate your fall availability in your cover letter.
Salary: $19-21/hour, depending on qualifications and experience, at the discretion of the OWC.
Duration: May-August 2021, with possibility for extension into the fall for those who are available (dependent on funding)
Deadline to Apply: February 5, 2021
How to Apply: Please visit oldmanwatershed.ca/jobs for full job description and instructions on how to apply.
