Education Assistant, Education Programs - Short-Term Contract Position (TRCA-126-20)
Under the guidance of the Program Manager, Monarch Nation, the Education Assistant will be responsible for the delivery of directed children’s programming either online or in-person throughout July and August 2020. Programming will focus on engaging children in wildlife conservation, specifically around species at risk and monarch butterflies.
This position demands an individual with strong facilitation abilities. They are expected to provide excellent customer service to community stakeholders. Expectations outside of program delivery include resource development, equipment management and marketing and event promotion support.
Regular evening and weekend work is a function of the job as required. Occupational Health and Safety is a major responsibility of this position.
NOTE: Hiring at TRCA is contingent to the clearance of the Vulnerable Sector Screening. Candidates will be asked for a screening only where they have been selected as the leading candidate.
Perform the following tasks under general supervision:
Develop and deliver programming to children aged 6-12, online and at camps / other venues where possible.
Transport program supplies with TRCA fleet vehicles.
Maintain program records and enter data as required.
Other duties as required.
Post-secondary education in an environmental field, education or equivalent, an asset.
First aid certification.
Ability to work flexible work hours.
Daily access to a vehicle and a valid Ontario drivers' license required.
Comfortable working on rough terrain and off-trail at work sites.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Excellent oral communication skills.
Experience working in a camp, school or similar setting.
Experience developing and leading nature interpretation activities in the outdoors.
Experience developing on-line programming and resources for children.
Strong organizational skills and time management skills.
