    WORK ENVIRONMENT:     

    RLC Park Services is the Park Operator responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of Goldstream Provincial Park and many other Provincial and Regional Parks on Vancouver Island.   At RLC we are conscientious stewards of our parks while providing our park visitors with an unforgettable park experience.  We are committed to providing nature education opportunities, Nature Houses and visitor services all without direct government funding.  Our Park Naturalist services and Nature House facilities are funded by revenues generated through donations, sales in our gift shops, special event fundraisers and user-pay programs.   We are determined to keep education programs happening in our parks and all seasonal positions are expected to be part of the team working toward this goal. 

    DUTIES:

    Do you have a passion for delivering engaging, innovative, and hands-on, nature and recreation programs to a variety of audiences? Do you enjoy a dynamic work day that combines both indoor and outdoor settings with a focus on enhancing visitors’ appreciation for the natural world? Do you have an aptitude for taking care of natural artifacts and exhibits? If so, then this opportunity could be perfect for you!

    A day in the life of a Parks Program Naturalist:  There is no typical work day for this role but in general you will arrive at the Nature House in Goldstream Park, ready to operate the Goldstream Nature House, deliver high quality education programs, create and perform summer public programs, and/or plan and host special event days.

    WAGE RATE:                        Seasonal Positions Start at $13.25 per hour 

    EMPLOYMENT:                     Temporary positions (Some as early as Late April-Labour Day) may extend until early December

    HOURS:                                  Part-time leading to Full-time hours, both daytime, evening, weekend and holiday shifts. Schedule is based on operational requirements.

    WORK LOCATION:              Goldstream Nature House and surrounding parks, British Columbia

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    ·         Prior to first day of employment obtain/provide: a valid Class 5 driver’s license, own vehicle to/from work, a Drivers Abstract, current Standard First Aid (or higher) and CPR certification, a Criminal Record Check, Food Safe Certificate

    ·         Must be willing to wear an RLC Park Services uniform;

    ·         Must be flexible and able to work in various locations and work variable hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays and overnight.

     

    EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:    To be considered, your application must clearly explain how you qualify for the following:

    ·         Successful completion of a Post-Secondary degree from a recognized university or college in natural sciences and education or related field OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience;

    ·         Demonstrated knowledge of Vancouver Island’s Parks and natural history (flora and fauna familiarity);

    ·         Experience working with school groups, public, tourists etc

    ·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

    ·         Experience researching, planning and delivering engaging presentations to a variety of audiences;

    ·         Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and retain large amounts of information;

    ASSETS:

    ·         Class 4 license;

    ·         Wilderness First Aid;

    ·         Hiking, guiding, paddling certifications;

    ·         Art Skills, Carpentry, Set Design Experience for creation of program props and Nature House displays.
